Is Marriaged Designed to keep people in unhappy relationships?

Cass Almendral With attractive 24yo recently separated swedish beauty who says my single friends are under the illusion that finding their mate and getting married will make them happy while in fact marriage is designed to keep people in unhappy relationships. Is this true?

Honey if you have friends who are married I'd like to see 'em! As for the rest of us who are happily ensconced in relationships and not hanging with the crowd anymore, give it a rest. We enjoyed our single days, and are now enjoying our coupledom days. You don't see us on here knocking your lifestyle choices online.

haha. Personally, I recommend waiting until AFTER 30 to get married. I know 7 couples who divorced this yr, under the age of 30. Coupledom is totally fulfilling, possible and amazing when done RIGHT and not out of sick desperation...which is a kind of choice I often sadly overhear spoken about by bored, lonely and undriven 20-something females = (I don't know what to do with my life, I don't want to work anymore, I'll get married and pregnant and then I'll have a purpose).

I believe if you are lucky enough to find the " right" person ,marriage can be very fulfilling. So long as there is a good sexual attraction as well as great conversation and hand holding.Respect for each other and trust also big factors here in any long term relationship.I do not believe marriage is the only answer ,but the " right " person is necessary. This ,for long term success, can be difficult to find.

It all depends on what kind of marriage you're in

swedes have a unique perception on relationships. i know i roomed with one in college. it's best to decide what you want then go for it. my guess, lonely singles dream of marriage as a "cure to dating" and unhappy married folk romanticize the single life.

The divorce rate in the US is what 65% and out of those in a relationship 25% cheat. Be sure to know what you want, want what you love, and love what you want.

According to my Happily Married Male and Female friends:
With the Right One, where you feel Comfortable and Trust, Marriage is Great and they wish they hadn't stayed Single so long, but glad that they did, to get it out of their system before Marrying. Choose Well!!! They also say that all the Superficial things we think are so important (in a ... Read Moremate), are so Not once you Marry. They ALL tell me they are Happier than they Ever Imagined. But then they All also came from families that enjoy Happy Marriages too. You learn from home. Are your friend's parents Happily Married? Your friend is only 24 and needs to enjoy life first and know what she wants.

that is a pretty bold and obnoxious thing to say that marriage is "designed to keep ppl in unhappy relationships" . I do not agree with the statement.

Gee, Aryn, how old are you, you think 20 something women just want a purpose and get married and pregnant for that!!. I can see you don't have a clue about what women want, we are looking for love you dope, romace, companionship etc. It's all about the feelings guys, get it right, ok you did get the age of marriage right, I believe it should be law, nobody is allowed to get married in their 20's you are finding out, who you are, and what you want!. I love when people blame the institution of marriage instead of taking responsibility for either making a bad choice, a mistake, marrying for the wrong reason, marrying the wrong person or not knowing yourself enough yet to make the right choice. Relationships aren't 'bad', our choices are.

I am going to have to put my foot down.... lol. The 'institution of marriage' creates an enormous stigma, both good and bad. Its centered in almost every culture around the world and it puts HUGE pressure on children from a very early age to get married. That pressure causes bad choices. The more you are influenced by society and pressures by culture, religion, and or parents, the more likely to make a bad choice you are.

Marriage is useless unless it's to the right person, you're flexible, willing to compromise and unselfish. If you're not willing to be those things stay single. Also, one of the main reasons to get married is if you want to have kids!

Not always true. Only if its with the wrong person, but if the relationship is a healthy and loving one, it would definitely bring happiness. A woman without love, is like a flower without sun. And to love is to feel the sun from both sides. Marriage and love are indeed two different things, but if you marry someone you really love and who loves you back too, it for sure bring happiness! But if you are getting married because of some other motive, it may be the illusion the girl described

Thats just it. Love and Marriage are not the same. -Marriage is something society tells you to do if you happen to be 1 Man and 1 Women who want to show the world that you love each other and have some ownership over each other. Love is a feeling. A feeling that can be felt between any combination of people at any age, any religion or faith, any upbringing or society. Marriage is an imperfect tool created by religion and society to show a bond between a man and a women.

Motives for marriage:
- become financially equal with someone. (or closer than you were single)
- to annouce or show the world you love someone... Read More
- to appease your family and society
- to gain citizenship

Motive for love does not exist. its a feeling that most often can not be helped.
